Drawing from Memory Lesson 1a

Grade Level: 1st – 3rd grade or ages 6-9 respectively

Course Description: The first lesson from in our Classical Drawing course for beginner students, in introduction to drawing for the primary level who would like to learn the art of drawing as a fruit of the seven classical liberal arts. Students will begin to learn to “see righty” and to make the connection that art is a visual language that begins as an idea in the mind. Ideas have varied modes of expression, and so learning to draw well and accurately, gives students another way in which they may express their ideas. Students should be willing to about an hour to read through the lesson with an adult and should continue to draw from memory after the lesson is complete. There are assessments after the reading to ensure students are understanding the lesson well and students will use drawing from their memory in all of their classical art studies as the grow.

Required Materials: pencil, eraser, dedicated sketchbook,
